I love reading my emails...

It turns out, the month of March may not be all that bad (perhaps my famous last words.) I made a new hobby of checking my inbox daily like a dog at his post waiting for the mailman. I kid you not, the rush of receiving good news is truly a rush. Of course, I get rejection emails, saying that my poems aren't a good fit for their publication. But to me, it's a motivation to keep doing what I am doing, and push myself to become better than before. And I've learnt not to take rejections personally.

With that said, this past week has been exciting. Vizz Mag accepted my poem haikus on a crush. It is, as you may have guessed, haikus on a crush. I thought it'd be fun to shake things up a little with some traditionally structured works. So in this one, there are four different stanzas, technically divided into two sections. Each half has its own theme and keywords that I aligned with the theme of love. If not love, then infatuation, or puppy love, or intense romanticism. What have you. Keep an eye out for March 23rd for the inaugural release!

I have also received an acceptance to bad apple, another website that I've been hoping to contribute to. I love what they're doing and it's close to home. It made me really excited when I read their email last Saturday. I have to admit, the poem like animals is something that I never thought I would write, simply because of how deviant it is from my older beliefs. I like to think that it's a step into a new beginning where I am more honest with myself and, by extension, others. I'm really proud of this one, and I cannot wait to see this published soon!

Because good things come in threes, I received an email from Major 7th Mag that will be accepting My Funny Valentine, by Chet Baker, which was originally titled, one. I'm very excited for this one because Major 7th is such a unique literary magazine. It's almost ekphrastic in the sense that instead of writing about art, you're writing about music and your response to that music (I'm clearly butchering the mission of the magazine, I'm sorry). And if there's one thing you must absolutely know about me, it's that I love music. It is such a big part of my life, and to combine music and poetry is almost transcendental. I'm really grateful that they accepted My Funny Valentine because the imagery in this is one I am quite proud of. It's gory, it's irreverent, it's twisted, it's strange - it's everything I love and then some. I remember writing this on the train, being bored out of my mind. The imagery I used in boredom was stuck with me, which resulted in this interesting amalgamation of metaphors. It's probably not for the faint of heart.

In saying all these, I'm thankful for Vizz Mag, bad apple and Major 7th Mag for giving my poems a place to call home. I am truly grateful for giving me and my works a chance, and I hope that they leave an impression in the reader as poetry has done for me. Here's to hoping for more good news to come!
